Fem+ Engineering Mentorship Program

Young women in a DiscoverE FEM plus class setting

The Fem+ Engineering Mentorship Program is a 7-month mentorship experience for women, non-binary, and 2SLGBTQ+ high school students interested in exploring the possibilities within engineering.

This mentorship program pairs grade 10-12 students with current U of A engineering students that are women, non-binary, or 2SLGBTQ+, and allows mentees to explore what engineering is, and if it might be a good fit for them.

MENTORS

Are you an undergraduate or graduate student in the science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) fields? Mentors can volunteer to present their experience in the STEM fields and answer any questions kids might have. Mentors help inspire and educate our participants about the potential fields they could go into one day, and guide their mentees through the process of deciding whether or not engineering might be a good fit for them.

Applications for Fem+ mentors will open over the summer. If you are interested and want to find more about this opportunity in the meantime, please email devc@ualberta.ca.

MENTEES

Are you a high school student considering, on the fence about, or not even thinking about engineering, yet? The Fem+ Engineering Mentorship Program is a 7-month mentorship for women and 2SLGBTQ+ high school students that are interested in exploring the possibilities within engineering. All levels of knowledge and experience in STEM are welcome – this program is designed to help students explore what engineering is and if it is the best fit for them.

The program is a mix of virtual and in-person events covering a variety of topics, spanning from informational sessions to experiential learning opportunities. Applications for mentees will open in September 2024.
