I'm Emad Yuzbashian, and I'm excited to extend a warm welcome as your Canadian Nutrition Society representative at UofA. I'm currently pursuing my PhD in Nutrition, with a research focus on nutrition and diabetes under the guidance of Catherine Chan.

Who Are We?

The Canadian Nutrition Society (CNS) at U of A is all about bringing together students who share a passion for nutrition, from undergrads to Ph.D. candidates. Whether you're diving into the depths of metabolic pathways, exploring the latest superfoods, or just curious about leading a healthier life, you're in the right place.

Our Vision

Our vision is simple: to create a vibrant and supportive community where we can learn, grow, and have fun together. We're more than just a society; we're a nutrition family.

Get Involved

We believe in hands-on involvement and learning. That's why we're looking for enthusiastic students who'd like to join our team, share their knowledge, and help organize exciting events. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting your nutrition journey, your unique perspective is valuable to us. If you’re interested, please reply to this email and let me know. I’ll then add you to our mailing list and keep you updated on our upcoming activities and events.

Some of the things I have in mind are:

  • A monthly online/in-person journal club where we can discuss current topics and trends in nutrition, such as the latest research findings, policy implications, or public health challenges.
  • A monthly newsletter through which we can consistently update our community about CNS events and activities, while highlighting our accomplishments, including publications, awards, grants, collaborations, and various nutrition-related opportunities.
  • A seasonal social gathering offering the chance for in-person connections (if feasible), along with shared meals, beverages, and entertaining nutrition-themed activities, including quizzes, games, and trivia.

Join the Conversation

In the meantime, join our WhatsApp group to start connecting with fellow nutrition enthusiasts right away. Share articles, recipes, or just say hello!

Your Ideas Matter

Do you have ideas for events or activities related to nutrition? Whether it's a healthy cooking class, a guest speaker, or a friendly potluck, we want to hear from you. Your input will shape the future of our society.

We're thrilled to embark on this journey with you. Let's make our society an exciting hub of knowledge, connections, and good times. Reach out to me at yuzbashi@ualberta.ca if you have questions, suggestions, or if you'd like to get involved.

Here's to a fantastic year of all things nutrition!

Warm regards,

Emad Yuzbashian

Your CNS Representative
