Applying for the Roger S. Smith Undergraduate Researcher Award

This award is intended to cultivate and support research partnerships between undergraduate students and faculty members.

There are 15 awards available, each worth $5000.

This amount is intended to provide for 15 weeks of research-based activity over the summer.

All awards will be made to continuing undergraduate students enrolled in the Faculty of Arts.

Please note that successful applicants will be expected to participate in a poster session in early October. You are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to disseminate your research. Your poster will be displayed on the University of Alberta campus and online.  

Eligibility:  Applicants must be a full-time continuing student registered in a Faculty of Arts degree program.  Please see the Student FAQ document for additional eligibility criteria.

Application Deadline: March 15th (If this date falls on a holiday or weekend, applications will be accepted until the following business day.)
Applications must be received as a single PDF with documents in the order specified in the Student FAQ document linked below.  Hard copies will not be accepted for adjudication.

An information session for students and prospective supervisors will be held on January 26, 2017 from 4:00 - 5:30 PM; Location TBD and will be posted here as it's available.
