Training Sessions and Certification offered by the Office of Environmental Health and Safety and others

The Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code(2003) specify that workers be trained in the safe operation of equipment and that workers are competent (Regulation 13(1), 15(1)). Training may involve getting a license (e.g. firearms, motorboat), taking a course required by the University of Alberta (e.g. radiation safety training, 15-passenger van driving) or attending a session offered by the supervisor (or another competent person) who is aware of the hazards associated with various operations and can offer guidelines for avoiding injury (e.g. use of a chainsaw or ATV).
