EndPoverty Edmonton Road Map Approved

CUP News - 10 August 2016

In early 2014, the Mayor of Edmonton created a task force to examine the complex issues surrounding poverty. The Mayor's Task Force to End Poverty was composed of 22 leaders and community stakeholders chaired by Mayor Don Iveson and Bishop Jane Alexander. CUP was represented on this Task Force by Maria Mayan, Assistant Director and Jeffrey Bisanz, Co-Chair, CUP Steering Committee. Using data from the Families First Edmonton study, the most significant needs of low-income families were identified to help the Task Force align their draft priorities with families lived experiences. The work of the Task Force resulted in the creation of an EndPoverty Edmonton Strategy in September 2015. Over the next several months an approach was formed on how to implement this strategy and an implementation Road Map was developed that provides specific directions over the next five years, starting in 2017. This community plan sets out 35 starting points that will kick start the goal to eliminate poverty in a generation. Read about Implementation Road Map here.
