Early Learning and Care Steering Committee studying the state of child care in Edmonton

About one-third of children in Edmonton live in a "child-care desert," according to a recent report from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives.

CUP Postdoctoral Fellow, Rob Buschmann, has been working with the Early Learning and Care Steering Committee which has been studying the state of child care in Edmonton. Quality, affordable childcare is a vision of Child Friendly Edmonton and contributes to EndPovertyEdmonton's goal of eliminating poverty within a generation.

While the finding of "child care deserts" in Edmonton makes it tempting to assume that these are areas where more child-care is needed, the issue is more complex than that. Rob Buschmann from CUP comments, explaining that part of the work is putting data together to paint a more complete picture of early learning and care in Edmonton." We have a picture right now, it's just very messy and hard to figure out.
