Canadian Centre for Welding and Joining
The Faculty of Engineering is pleased to announce the establishment of the Weldco / Industry Chair in Welding and Joining in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering. This industrial research chair will be the cornerstone upon which the Canadian Centre for Welding and Joining will be established.
About the Canadian Centre for Welding and Joining
The research done in the Canadian Centre for Welding and Joining will focus on productivity, weldability, automation, and performance. Introducing new processes, procedures, materials, and technologies, researching difficult-to-weld materials such as aged and embrittled alloys, and examining non-destructive testing, corrosion, and fracture issues are some of the areas that will be addressed within the centre.
Determining what the most important field of welding to initially specialize in is one of the big decisions currently facing the directors of the new Canadian Centre for Welding and Joining. "It's all about trying to find where the needs are," says Director Patricio Mendez, referring both to the needs of the students attempting to further their educations, and the needs of the welding industry at large who will be putting these welders to work.
