Graduate Student Internship Program

GSIP provides opportunities for UAlberta graduate students to gain valuable work experience through paid, meaningful internships in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.

GSIP provides funding for employers to hire a UAlberta graduate student for a meaningful internship to support a business need.

FGSR has partnered with the University of Alberta's Career Centre to develop the Graduate Student Internship Program (GSIP), to provide paid flexible work experience opportunities for UAlberta graduate students. Interdisciplinary work placements will be available throughout the year to allow graduate students to strengthen their professional and transferable skills. It includes the Sustainability Scholars Program and the Public Service Graduate Internship with Institute of Public Administration Canada (IPAC), Edmonton Region.

GSIP is not a co-op program. It is an internship designed for graduate students with:

  • higher pay
  • higher level work
  • higher expectations

Internship details

Up to $8,000 in matching funding is available for employers to hire an intern for up to 640 hours based on a wage of $25/hour (the expected minimum).

Internship placement terms (e.g. duration, number of hours of work/week, qualifications, scope of work performed) will vary based on the needs of employers and students. Applications are ongoing. Employers may contact the GSIP Advisor to create and post a job placement opportunity. GSIP is made possible by a Government of Alberta grant.
