Working After Age 65

Staff members working after age 65 in an eligible employment category continue to participate in the university's benefit plans as outlined below.

Benefit Plan Changes/Information
Health and Dental

Coverage continues as long as you are appointed to a benefits eligible position.

Long Term Disability

Academics: Coverage terminates on June 30 following your 65th birthday.

Support, MAPS, Executive: Coverage terminates at the end of the month in which you turn age 65.

  • Dependent Life
  • Optional Accidental Death and Dismemberment
  • Critical Illness (Basic and Optional)
Coverage terminates when you reach age 75.
Public Service Pension Plan (PSPP) You are not required to retire at age 65. However, you must apply to receive your PSPP benefit prior to December 31 of the year in which you turn age 71.
Universities Academic Pension Plan (UAPP) You are not required to retire at age 65. However, you must apply to receive your UAPP benefit by December 31 of the year in which you turn age 69.
Canada Pension Plan (CPP) You have the option of applying for benefits as early as age 60 or continue to contribute until age 70.
Old Age Security (OAS) You are entitled to receive Old Age Security at age 65 regardless of whether employment continues.
