Institute for Intersectionality Studies Meet and Greet!
Come meet the team and find out how you can get involved at IIS! Join us on Tuesday, February 13th, from 2 - 3:30 in Tory 12-15. The Director, Siobhan Byrne will give a brief overview of IIS, share some of the projects we’ve been working on, and introduce the team.
We’ll leave lots of time for questions and casual conversation over coffee/tea. The meeting is open to all, and we encourage you to announce the event in your classes. While not mandatory, an RSVP would be appreciated to ensure we have enough coffee and chairs.
If you can’t attend the meet-and-greet in person, you are welcome to join us for opening remarks from the director and the team @ 2 pm on Zoom
Decolonization in Context Workshops
The Anti-Racism Lab is hosting the "Decolonization in Context: USA" workshop on February 6th from 10:00 AM to 11:45 AM (Pacific Time) and in Canada on February 9th from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM (Mountain Time). These workshops are part of our ongoing "Decolonization in Context" workshop series. Future sessions will include Finland (March 13th, time TBA), South Africa (April 10th, time TBA), Brazil (May 8th, time TBA), and Sweden (June, date and time TBA). In this moderated conversation, three U of A scholars will reflect on the work of “decolonizing” research methods, drawing on their own situated experiences, practices, relationships, and areas of scholarship. Conversation will include attention to the very idea of ‘decolonizing’ research, and how people integrate this into their teaching. Moderators will briefly introduce the recent ‘Decolonizing’ Approaches to Research at uAlberta project in which the three panelists participated.
