Friends of the Ukrainian Folklore Centre Student Award

Purpose: To fulfill the mandate of the Friends of the Ukrainian Folklore Centre (FUFC) to facilitate the growth of Ukrainian ethnology, which is the discovery of knowledge about Ukrainian culture and identity through the study of arts, customs, beliefs, songs, crafts, and other traditions.

This award will provide valuable financial assistance to undergraduate university students to pursue post-secondary education in Ukrainian folklore and will also enhance the awareness of Ukrainian folklore within the community.

Value: $250 (maximum of 24 annually)

Conditions & Eligibility Criteria: Awarded to undergraduate students enrolled in Ukrainian Folklore courses within the Ukrainian Folklore Program at the University of Alberta. Scholarships will be awarded based on performance (academic standing). This award will be issued at the completion of each term.

To be considered, applicants must submit the attached application form by the deadline in the term in which they are currently taking a Ukrainian Folklore class. A maximum of 12 awards will be issued every six months.

Awardees can apply for the Friends of the Ukrainian Folklore Centre Student Award in conjunction with another FUFC award, but they can receive only one award.

Applicants will receive an email confirming the receipt of their application form. The receipt of application does not guarantee granting of the award.

Application deadline: for the Fall Term - December 31, for the Winter Term - April 30, for the Spring Term - June 30.

Selection Process & Award Receipt:The FUFC Award Committee, consisting of members of the board of directors of the Friends of the Ukrainian Folklore Centre (FUFC), will review all applications and choose the successful scholarship recipients based on academic performance and the conditions and criteria outlined above.

Payment Process: Award is to be used to offset tuition fees. The recipients will receive notification and payment at the end of the selection process, approximately six-weeks after the application deadline.

The Friends of the Ukrainian Folklore Centre will not distribute and share any personal information with a third party.

With the signing of my application, I agree to allow my professor to release my final grade to the FUFC and my name to be used in the promotion, marketing and advertisement of this scholarship program by the Friends of the Ukrainian Folklore Centre.
