Visiting Researcher

Between September 27 and October 18 2017, RCMR hosted a visiting researcher, Dr. Nandini Sinha Kapur from the Indira Gandhi National Open University in New Delhi, India.

Dr. Kapur is an historian, focused on the indigenous Meena and Bhils people of India, and was here in Edmonton to learn more about Indigenous peoples in Canada (notably the Métis). Recipient of the Shastri Indo-Canadian Fellowship, Dr. Kapur's goal following her visit is to write a proposal regarding the feasibility of an "Eco-museum Model" site that would promote Métis culture and connection to the land.

While here, Dr. Kapur gave a public presentation on the Meenas of India during a Brown Bag event hosted in Pembina Hall, with approximately 12 people in attendance. She also presented to one of the first year Native Studies classes on colonial processes in India. She spent much of her time collecting information from our campus libraries and the Faculty's Strynadka/ Brady Reading Room.
