Beyond The Knife: Global Surgery, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship

Why global surgery is so important? Did you know that 5 billion people do not have access surgical care that is safe and affordable, and 143 million more surgeries are needed in these low-income and middle-income countries? How do we ethically address these issues? Dr. Saleh provides a short presentation at the University of Alberta 2021 Global Health Fair.

The growing recognition of lack of surgery and surgical access as a significant global health burden has brought it into the mainstream. With that comes opportunities for making large scale impacts, developing new systems, innovations and technologies. At the same time, it also comes with a need to recognize the risks of harm and ethical perils as well as the importance of sustainability and scale. This talk explores a road maybe less traveled, full of mistakes, learnings and growth, but one that might lead to a more ethical and sustainable impact click here for the Global Health Fair story or watch the presentation above.
