The growing recognition of lack of surgery and surgical access as a significant global health burden has brought it into the mainstream. With that comes opportunities for making large scale impacts, developing new systems, innovations and technologies. At the same time, it also comes with a need to recognize the risks of harm and ethical perils as well as the importance of sustainability and scale. Dr. Abdullah Saleh is an Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery, Division of Pediatric Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta. He did his undergrad at the University of Calgary, medical degree and residency in General Surgery at the University of Alberta and fellowhsip at McMaster University.  He is currently working as a pediatric surgeon at the Stollery Children's/University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton. He established the Office of Global Surgery which develops global partnerships to improve access to surgical care and trains clinicians and global health innovators. He co-founded and directs Innovative Canadians for Change (ICChange), a not for profit social enterprise which raises funds for international development initiatives.  Other projects he’s been involved with include providing vocational training and access to high-efficiency stoves to refugees on the Burma-Thai border and the Kenya Ceramic Project, a water-filtration initiative that provides clean drinking water for 100,000 Kenyans.  For more information about Dr. Saleh’s many global health projects, go here and to the following links:
