Undergraduate Summer Students' Research Program

The Undergraduate Summer Students' Research Program in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta provides undergraduate and medical students the opportunity to participate in summer research under the supervision of a faculty member (A1.1 or C1.1 appointments). Summer research positions are available for two, three or four months each year between May and August. Approximately 200 students participate annually, making this the largest program of its kind in Canada.

Students are funded from multiple sources including faculty endowments, the UA Office of the Provost and VP Academic, Alberta Innovates, and the Northern Alberta Clinical Trials and Research Centre (NACTRC).

Special COVID-19 Message for all Summer Students and Supervisors

We know that being on campus is essential for our undergraduate summer students to enjoy the complete research experience. We are planning (and hoping) for the best case scenario (i.e., a normal launch of our summer research activities in May), but recognize that adaptive solutions may be necessary. Student safety remains our highest priority. Thus, undergraduate summer students will be welcomed to campus as soon as we are confident that it can be done safely and in compliance with all safety guidelines and protocols.
