Petr Konečný, PhD Candidate in Political Science at the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic

I am a doctoral student in political science at Masaryk University. My areas of interest are comparative federalism & regionalism, regional politics and the political traditions of Central Europe. After graduating in history and political science, I was accepted to post-gradual study with a dissertation project examining regional autonomy and interdependence in Austria and the Czech Republic.

The research fellowship at Wirth Institute, located at the prestigious University of Alberta, offers a good opportunity to complete my dissertation research and PhD. After that, I would like to continue my research as a postdoc or analyst. My long-term target is establishing a research facility focusing on public administration (emphasising self-governance) since no such institution operates in the Czech Republic. I would also like to contribute to the administrative reform of my country as a policy advisor.

Besides the doctoral study at my alma mater, I work as a junior researcher at SYRI (The National Institute for Research on Socioeconomic Impacts of Diseases and Systemic Risks, Czech Republic), focusing on multilevel governance. In the past, I did an internship at the Institute of the Regions of Europe (IRE; Salzburg, Austria; 2022), defended paper at EUSOC 2021 (International interdisciplinary PhD Visegrad Seminar in social sciences; Telč, Czech Republic) and organised several interdisciplinary conferences for experts and public administration representatives (Perspectives of Public Administration; Brno, Czech Republic; since 2021), including an international conference funded by the European Parliament (The Role of European Regions in Building a New Union of all Peoples; Brno; 2022). I also gained professional experience in political analytics, political marketing and journalism.
