This isn't just another seminar; it is a two-day dive introducing you to the cutting-edge world of ActiveMemory aligner therapy.

What you will learn

Program overview

This program explores 3D polymer printing as an avenue in modern orthodontics, offering a robust scientific and clinical framework that bridges the gap between biology, biomechanics, and material behaviour. Participants will gain practical mastery through hands-on exposure to both AI-assisted and manual controls within the Titan, LuxDesign, and LuxFlow platforms, ensuring a deep understanding of precise aligner design.

By focusing on strategic decision-making, the curriculum covers essential skills for case selection, hybrid treatment planning, and sophisticated biomechanical control using ActiveMemory polymers. Ultimately, this initiative is designed to empower while laying the groundwork for future collaborative research that will shape the evolution of the field.

Learning objectives

On completion, our goal is to ensure participants:

  • Review the biology, biomechanics and materials science that shape contemporary aligner therapy
  • Trace the evolution of aligner treatment from conventional thermoforming to printed ActiveMemory polymer systems
  • Apply diagnostic protocols and case-selection logic to straightforward and more complex malocclusions
  • Understand the digital workflow across Titan, LuxDesign, and LuxFlow, including design parameters relevant to clinical execution
  • Explain the benefits of the polymer behaviours and the capacities to customize aligner geometries as needed

Syllabus

Day one is structured as a lecture program, while day two expands into an open workshop with digital workflow demonstrations, case-based discussion, and hands-on exposure to 3D printed aligner production.

The course will cover:

  • Aligner therapy history
  • ActiveMemory aligners
  • Comprehensive diagnostic protocols and case selection
  • Mechanical applications: Anterior corrections, posterior and complex movements
  • Orthodontic resident thesis presentations

To facilitate the hands-on printing of practice aligners, participants are encouraged to submit intraoral scans ahead of time. While a complete record set is beneficial for a comprehensive experience, CBCT imaging is not a requirement for this workshop.

Keynote

Dr. Jean-Marc Retrouvey
Orthodontist

Dr. Retrouvey, DMD, MSc, FRCD(C), is a senior faculty member, department of molecular genetics at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, and clinical professor, Case Western Reserve, Cleveland, Ohio. He has been involved in developing an interactive curriculum to improve the diagnostic skills and treatment planning of orthodontic cases for over 20 years. Dr. Retrouvey lectures internationally on the importance of correct diagnosis of dental malocclusions as well as the use of optimized biomechanics.

Dr. Retrouvey is a principal investigator of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) multicenter grant for a research study on Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), a rare genetic bone disease.

He is passionate about innovation in the delivery of orthodontic care and is actively involved in the development of 3D CAD/CAM technologies for orthodontics.

Retrouvey is an examiner for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC), an advisor for the National Dental Examining Board of Canada (NDEB), a member of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) and the Canadian Association of Orthodontists (CAO). He is one of the founding members of BIOMEDE, an association dedicated to promoting the knowledge of orthodontic biomechanics as an essential background to practice orthodontics. Retrouvey is also actively involved with Health Volunteer Overseas (HVO) in the development of advanced blended teaching programs for emerging countries. He is actively involved in the creation of an orthodontic program in Cambodia.

As a teacher, Retrouvey has received the McGill Dental Society, the Wood, the Katz, and the Silverstone awards for excellence in teaching. For his contribution to research and his implication in advancing the knowledge of dentistry, he was recently inducted in the Académie Dentaire du Québec (ADQ). Retrouvey was recognized during the McGill Bravo award diner in March 2019 for his outstanding contributions to the dental profession and his excellence in research.

Our leading faculty

Dr. Manuel Oscar Lagravère Vich
Director, orthodontic graduate program

Dr. Lagravère, DDS, MSc, PhD, was born in Lima, Peru, where he completed his degree in dental science (2000) and masters in science (2003) at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia.

After this, he moved to Edmonton to pursue a PhD in orthodontic which was completed in July 2009 in the University of Alberta. Since then, Lagravère has moved in the faculty ranks being promoted to tenured-professor in orthodontics since July 2023 where he is involved in teaching orthodontics to undergraduates and postgraduates students.

During his time in teaching and doing research, Lagravère has won several awards and has published over 160 papers in important scientific journals. In July 2025, he became the director of the orthodontic graduate program at the University of Alberta.

Presently, he runs several clinical trials involving orthodontic treatments and its impact on airway, skeletal, and dental changes. In several of these trials, he works jointly with universities from the US, Italy, Spain, Germany, and Mexico.
