Departments & Schools

Engineering at Alberta organizes itself into Departments and Schools, each responsible for administering programs and research in related disciplines.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering, a joint department of the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, studies how to use engineering and science to solve medical problems.

The Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering connects chemistry and materials science to the real world.

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering and School of Mining & Petroleum Engineering looks at the study of energy and natural resources, and how we plan and build the world around us.

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering looks at the design and development of computer hardware and software, electrical and electronic systems, and using physics to solve engineering problems.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering tackles the research, design, and development of machines, tools, and mechanical devices, from traditional manufacturing to nanotechnology.

Our Engineering Co-op Program spans our other disciplines, incorporating real-world experience through full-time employment in positions during your time as a student.

We are also home to the David and Joan Lynch School of Engineering Safety and Risk Management, the only integrated Engineering Safety and Risk Management (ESRM) program of its kind in Canada.
