ENGL 103 A08: Monsters and the Other: Beowulf, Tolkien, Jackson, and Behn

D. Bargen

J. R. R. Tolkien was a Beowulf scholar and his monsters are related to those in Beowulf, and consequently so are Peter Jackson's. We could think of these monsters as representations of the Other and consider with them different sorts of representation of the Other in Aphra Behn, the first woman to write professionally in English. You will be allowed to choose one of these texts as the basis of your research project in the course.
