Zine Launch and EFS Student Showcase

Join us on Monday, April 17 as we launch Voices of the Dead to the Living.

29 March 2023

Join us to launch our public humanities research project & student-made zine, Voices of the Dead to the Living! This event will take place on Monday, April 17th at 3:00 PM in the Salter Reading Room, Humanities Center 3-95, University of Alberta.

Our exhibition will showcase creative work which imagines the voices of dead women, trans, and non-binary authors speaking to our present. Alongside the visual element of a zine, the exercise of ethical listening is one we take up in attuning to voices and perspectives lost in time. Therefore, this exhibition will feature a series of audio recordings that imagine the voices of dead women, trans, and non-binary figures audibly speaking to our present. Facilitated by EFS graduate students, this zine includes creative work from all levels of our department -- from undergraduates to faculty members -- and even work from student writers internationally. This gathering will also be concluded with a panel of experts on women’s life writing composed of Dr. Katherine Binhammer, Dr. Julie Rak, and Dr. Joycelyn Moody.

Snacks and refreshments will be provided throughout, and project members will be available afterwards for questions and discussion. Come along for good conversation & good company; it will be a lovely afternoon!
