Advanced Imaging Fellowship

Overview

Training is conducted at the Elko Cardiac MRI unit at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute which is a dedicated unit for both adult and pediatric cardiac MRI. The supervising cardiologists/radiologists are: Edythe Tham, Joseph Pagano and Michelle Noga. The unit performs approximated approximately 250 sedated and non-sedated pediatric and congenital cases per year and is also a referral site for some centres in Western Canada.

Research Experience

The fellow will be  be involved in at least one primary research project, under the supervision of an assigned mentor. It is expected that this work will lead to an abstract presentation at a major meeting and publication of the work during their fellowship.

The clinical research fellowship provides training to develop the expertise for performance and interpretation of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Training in pediatric and congenital cardiology MRI is offered jointly with another specialty area in pediatric cardiology, usually with pediatric echocardiography for a minimum of one year (see also Echocardiography Clinical Research Fellowship).

Teaching Experience

Fellows will be expected to participate in educational sessions consisting of MRI case presentations, journal club and related academic half day sessions.
