Visiting Scholar Program - Research Writing
Cathy McPhalen is owner, editor and writer at thINK Editing Inc. She helps clients communicate their health and science research to grant reviewers, policy makers, patients, donors and other specialized audiences.
Scientists need to be effective and clear communicators to optimize the impact of their research. Building knowledge, skill and competence in effective communication can be enhanced through education, practice and constructive feedback. The department is launching a series of in residence programs, the first of which is focused on research writing.
“Our Chair’s Council wanted to create novel and practical learning opportunities for department members,” explains Geoff Ball, associate chair research. “This is an excellent and unique offering for department researchers to learn from one of the best science writers and communicators around.”
Visiting Scholar Program research editor/writer Cathy McPhalen will offer small group workshops and resources to department members, along with coaching and mentoring. Learning support will focus on editing and writing for research-related activities such as grant applications and manuscripts.
