The School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) is proud to announce that this October we will be hosting SLIS Distinguished Scholar Dr. Samuel E. Trosow from the University of Western Ontario. Dr. Trosow is jointly appointed to the Faculty of Law and Faculty of Information and Media Studies, and is a leading scholar in the areas of information policy, librarianship and digital media with a specific focus on intellectual property rights in Canada. He is the co-author of Canadian Copyright: A Citizen's Guide, which is now in its second edition. Dr. Trosow is also actively involved in the Graphics, Animation and New Media (GRAND) Networks of Centres of Exellence (NCE), where he leads the Citizenship research theme.

The School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) is proud to announce that this October we will be hosting SLIS Distinguished Scholar Dr Samuel E. Trosow from the University of Western Ontario. Dr. Trosow is jointly appointed to the Faculty of Law and Faculty of Information and Media Studies, and is a leading scholar in the areas of information policy, librarianship and digital media with a specific focus on intellectual property rights in Canada. During Dr. Trosow's visit (Oct 16-25, 2014) he will be giving a number of presentations that are of interest to SLIS students, staff and faculty as well as the broader University of Alberta and LIS communities. Highlights from Dr. Trosow's visit include:

  • On October 16 Dr. Trosow will be presenting at the Netspeed Conference on the subject of makerspaces and intellectual property rights (along with SLIS Assistant Professor, Dr. Michael McNally).   • On October 18 Dr. Trosow will present the keynote address at the annual Progressive Librarian's Guild - Edmonton Chapter Symposium (Organize and Assemble IV) to be held at SLIS. For more details please see the PLG Edmonton Website: http://plgedmonton.ca/2014-symposium-program/
  • On October 22 Dr. Trosow will be speaking as part of the University of Alberta Libraries' Open Access Week.
  • On October 19, 24 and 25, Dr Trosow will be teaching a 1-credit MLIS course on Copyright at SLIS. More details on Dr. Trosow's 1-credit MLIS course will be provided on the SLIS website in the coming weeks.

Dr. Trosow will also be hosting some office hours at SLIS, providing students and others an opportunity to engage and interact with one of Canada's leading copyright scholars. SLIS looks forward to hosting
