Ben Gallaher and his son

Ben Gallaher has been part of the University of Alberta staff since 2009 and currently holds the role of Associate Director of the Green & Gold Sport System with Golden Bears and Pandas Athletics. He completed his BA in Recreation and Leisure Studies at the U of A in 2004. Ben is passionate about helping young athletes excel in sport and is dedicated to promoting multi-sport participation. Born in Vernon, British Columbia, Ben grew up playing soccer, volleyball and basketball while working at the local ski hill in the winter and his favorite golf course in the summer. He and his wife Terra can be found watching their son Lochlan play hockey, soccer and baseball throughout the year.

Michael Cook

Michael Cook is the Head Coach for Sport Conditioning at the University of Alberta, Head Coach for Strength and Conditioning for the Men’s National Indoor Volleyball Team, and Manager for the ASDC-Capital Region. He holds a graduate degree in Strength and Conditioning from St Mary's University, UK and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA. He is the mentor coach for numerous graduate students, lectures in various classes, and oversees the new Return to Performance Centre at the University of Alberta. Originally from Sunderland, England, he is a blue collar rugby loving Mackem.

Dana Ferguson

Dana Ferguson was born and raised in Stony Plain, Alberta. Dana played for the University of Alberta Curling team from 2005-2010. During that time she completed her Bachelor's degree in Education and Physical Education. She has been working for the University of Alberta since 2007 where she started as a curling coach for the Summer Camps. Dana is also a top-ranked curler playing for Kelsey Rocque. Dana represented Canada at the World Championships in 2019. Dana is a multi-sport athlete, growing up she was a gymnast, dancer, softball player and curler. In Junior high, she started competing in basketball, volleyball, and track and field which she continued all the way until she graduated high school in 2005. You can still find Dana playing recreational sports such as volleyball and slo-pitch when she isn't curling. Her friends call her "Fergie" and you can hear her laugh from across the building.

Kelly Haggstrom

Kelly Haggstrom was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. Kelly joined the Green & Gold Sport System in 2019 as programming coordinator. Kelly completed a Digital Media and Information Technology Diploma at NAIT before joining the GGSS team. Kelly has been a part of the University of Alberta Pandas Basketball coaching staff since 2004-05 season. Kelly is a passionate advocate for basketball in the community. Positive youth development is a core pillar in Kelly's coaching philosophy. During the basketball season you can find Kelly somewhere on a court and during the summer popping in to help at our Basketball sport camps or on the slo-pitch field enjoying the weather.

Matt Parrish

Matt Parrish coaching rugby 7s

In 1997, Matt Parrish moved to Canada from England having completed a BA in Sport Development & Coaching at the University of Northumbria. Matt has been a coach of the Pandas Rugby Team since the program’s creation in 1999 and has been Head Coach of the program since 2004. Over the course of his career, Matt has been fortunate to travel and coach in several countries including China (Beijing); Portugal (Porto); Russia (Kazan); Spain (Cordoba) and the USA (Las Vegas, Los Angeles & San Diego). Matt has coached with the Rugby Canada 15’s & 7’s teams and also coached Canada at three FISU Games & one Universiade. Matt has a wife, Heather, and two future Pandas; Hannah and Sophie. When Matt is not coaching or watching rugby, he likes to play squash & soccer to keep fit.

Klaudia Sapieja

Originally from Poland, Klaudia Sapieja completed her M.A. in Sport Psychology from the University of Alberta in 2009. Klaudia currently leads a high-quality integrated mental training program for the Green & Gold Sport System at the University of Alberta. She provides performance psychology services to student athletes, varsity staff, and pre-varsity athletes using a variety of modalities which include individual consulting, team workshops, train the trainer sessions, team mental profiling, and embedded mental training sessions. Her passion lies in helping athletes excel in both life and sport through a holistic approach. Her interests are broad and include culture building, confidence building, mindfulness training, embedding mental training into practice, and mental health support. Klaudia enjoys spending time in nature, competing in dog agility, surfing, and playing competitive roller derby.

Chelsea Ross

Chelsea Ross - Playing

Chelsea Ross graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2013. That same year, as a member of the Pandas Rugby team, she helped them win their 6th CIS National title. Since then, Chelsea has earned 17 caps for Rugby Canada's National Senior Women's team and was a member of the 2017 World Cup Squad. Chelsea earned the prestigious Bakewell Trophy in 2013-14 for the University of Alberta's top female athlete. She has gained experience and pursued her passion for coaching at various levels including high school, club, Edmonton Gold, Jr Pandas & Academy, Senior women's Wolfpack, and Pandas. Chelsea's coaching philosophy is focused around creating fun and challenging experiences for her athletes to learn and improve. She encourages a growth mindset for herself and her athletes. Chelsea currently is the Assistant Coach for Pandas 7's and 15's teams, and Lead Coach for the Girls Rugby training group in the Green & Gold Athlete Academy.

Fun Fact: Chelsea hates eggs & her husband has represented Canada in the sport of Rugby League!
