Jessica Harasym

Speech-Language Pathologist and Elks Clinician

Jessica has been practicing as a speech-language pathologist since graduating from the Masters of Speech-Language Pathology program at the University of Alberta in 2005.

Jessica began her involvement with the Institute for Stuttering Treatment and Research (ISTAR) in 2001 as a volunteer, and then as a research assistant in 2002 and 2003. Jessica joined the clinical team in 2008 after working as a speech-language pathologist with preschool and kindergarten-aged children with severe communication needs in an early education setting.

Currently, Jessica works with children, teens and adults who stutter as well as individuals with other speech, language and communication needs through ISTAR’s Communication Improvement Program (CIP). In addition to her clinical work, Jessica is involved in the supervision and clinical education of students in the University of Alberta’s Masters of Speech-Language Pathology program and contributes to research in the field of stuttering and speech-language pathology.

Jessica has completed specialized training or holds certification in the following areas:

  • Lidcombe training for preschool & school-aged children
  • Comprehensive Stuttering Program (CSP)
  • Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)
  • PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets) training
  • It Takes Two to Talk - The Hanen Program for Parents
  • Learning Language & Loving It - The Hanen Program for Early Childhood Educators/Teachers
  • More Than Words, The Hanen Program for Parents of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
