My broad are of research is North American politics (Canada, Mexico, the United States); including both these countries' domestic politics and interactions among them.
Within that broad area, I have recently focused on the following specific topics:
- conservatism (and its impacts on public policy),
- Canadian political system (including Quebec politics, Alberta politics, Canadian history, and Canadian security policy)
- federalism (from a comparative perspective, especially in Canada),
- regionalism (region-making with the rest of the Americas, for economic and political purposes),
- Mexican nationalism.
My contributions have been published in either one of the three official languages of North America (English, French or Spanish)..
I am willing and able to supervise MA or PhD students in my general area of interest, or in any one of the specific topics mentioned above; drawing from my thirty-plus year experience with methodology, empirical research and comparative politics.
