Assessing Student Learning
Effective assessment of student learning should include:
- assessment requirements and criteria for grading are clearly stated, students know what they need to do and what criteria will be used to evaluate their knowledge and skills;
- assessments and assignments are designed to help students achieve and demonstrate course learning outcomes;
- variety, innovation, or creativity in assessment practices are used;
- a multi-faceted approach to evaluate students;
- providing students with timely and constructive feedback throughout the course;
- an appropriate distribution and frequency of assessments throughout the course.
