We are very proud to announce that our Korean language instructors have just published a new language textbook, Discover Korean (Korean 101), one of the few Korean language textbooks ever published in Canada. We would like to congratulate Kyungsook Kim, Jooyeon Kang, Jin Mi Kwon, Byung-Geuk Kim, Hwaja Park, Hyechung Cho, and Hyeon Ho Lee for this spectacular achievement. Even more exciting is the news that this team is now working on sequels for higher-level Korean courses; they have already completed two volumes, for Korea 102 and 201 respectively, and plan to produce volumes for the entire four-year language program. We are keen to see this very successful team reach their goal in the near future!

"Discover Korean (Korea 101)"
Authors: Kyungsook Kim, Jooyeon Kang, Jin Mi Kwon, Byung-Geuk Kim, Hwaja Park, Hyechung Cho, Hyeon Ho Lee
English editor: Terry Nelson

This book was written by instructors of the Korean language program at the University of Alberta, and reflects the wealth of knowledge and experience which they, collectively, bring to the language teaching profession. Novice and experienced teachers, alike, will find the text informative and easy to use, and instructors teaching in North America will especially appreciate its ease of use in programs with 4-5 contact hours per week. This is because the curriculum has been customized for adaptation into just such programs of instruction.
The text includes a rich variety of classroom activities, as well as short model dialogues for speaking practice, conversational and narrational texts for reading and listening practice, and stimulating prompts for writing practice. It additionally includes detailed grammar explanations for both learners and instructors, new vocabulary items and expressions, cultural insights, and English translations.
The accompanying workbook will further support learners to interactively practice the skills and language points learned in the main textbook.
As authors, we believe this text will enrich the pedagogy and teaching of Korean language, and support both novice and experienced teachers in their goal of providing practical, but innovative lessons and programs of instruction.
