Program: Bachelor of Kinesiology (Major in Sports Performance)

In your opinion, what makes this faculty unique?

It is the only faculty on campus that feels more like a family than a group of competitors.

Why did you choose the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation for your undergraduate degree?

When I applied for university I wasn't confident in what career path would best suit my interests. I was always involved in sport as a child and was constantly exposed to occupations associated with physical education. That exposure, along with my fascination with the human body, made me realize that physical education and recreation was the faculty that I belonged in.

What attracted you to your program?

I have always had a fascination with the human body, how it functions, how it moves and how to improve it. I was attracted to the faculty of physical education and recreation because it satisfies all of those areas.

What is the most rewarding thing about being an undergraduate student in the faculty?

The friendships and relationships that I have built with both the students and the professors alike. I don't think there is another faculty in the University of Alberta that is as friendly as physical education and recreation. Your classmates become your family and your professors become your friends.

Can you give an example of a memorable experience while in the faculty?

Rookie Camp! If you join this faculty I highly suggest you attend the rookie camp. It is full of great games and hilarious moments that you get to share with people that become your family. It is a great way to get introduced to the ins and outs of the faculty. Overall, Rookie Camp provided me with the opportunity to get to know people within the faculty and made the U of A feel more like home.

What advice would you give someone who is considering applying to the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation?

Dive right in. Don't come into the program scared or with a "too cool for school" attitude because you will miss out on so many memorable and rewarding experiences. The Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation is always throwing events and so my number one piece of advice is to go to everything, especially Rookie Camp!

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I see myself being back in Edmonton working towards opening my own clinic after attaining my doctorate in chiropractic at the University of Western States in Portland Oregon.
