Undergraduate Admissions

Application Process

1) Review the admission requirements for the program you are applying for. 
Effective for the Fall 2015 term, new/incoming students who have been offered admission will have to pay a non-refundable $500 Tuition Deposit before they can become eligible to register in courses. Newly admitted students are encouraged to pay their Tuition Deposit as soon as possible after being admitted so that they can register in courses. 

2) Review the application and document deadlines.
These are available in the Program Descriptions section of the Faculty of Nursing website and in the Admissions and Readmission deadlines section of the University Calendar.

3) Submit your University of Alberta application at www.ualberta.ca/apply.
You may apply online or download and print the PDF version. Your application is not submitted until the application fee has been paid. Please note that from this page many applicants will first be directed to ApplyAlberta, a new provincial web-based application and transcript system.

4) Receive your UAlberta student ID number and Campus Computing ID.
You should receive an email with your UAlberta student ID number and your Campus Computing ID (CCID) within two business days of submitting your application. Your CCID allows you to access many services, including your UAlberta email account and Bear Tracks, UAlberta's online student service centre. Important communications are sent to your UAlberta email account, so activate it as soon as possible and check it frequently. Please provide your UAlberta student ID number for any inquiries about your application. For assistance with Bear Tracks, refer to the Bear Tracks User Guide.  

5) Check your To Do List in Bear Tracks and submit all required documents by the document deadline
Once your application has been processed, a personalized To Do List of outstanding items will be posted on Bear Tracks. The To Do List outlines all transcripts and other documentation required for your admission. Your application status will change to "complete" when all items have been received.

Ensure you submit all outstanding items to the Office of the Registrar by the applicable document deadline. Official transcripts will only be accepted if received directly from the issuing institution or applicable ministry.

6) Apply for residence if you wish to live in on-campus housing.
Visit www.ualberta.ca/residences for complete details and deadlines.

7) Apply for scholarships, awards, and financial assistance if applicable.

8) Check your admission decision in Bear Tracks.
You will be notified via Bear Tracks when a decision has been made about your application. Please refer to the Bear Tracks User Guide for an explanation of admission decision messages. An email regarding your admission will be sent to your UAlberta email account so please check it regularly. 

9) Review the Faculty of Nursing’s health and safety requirements.
These are explained in detail on the Health and Safety Requirements page of the Faculty of Nursing website and include CPR and First Aid training, immunization requirements, confidentiality agreements, etc. These requirements are not due as part of your application, but must be completed by the deadline indicated for your program on the Health and Safety Requirements page. 

10) View your Transfer Credit Report if applicable.
If you have previously completed any course work that is considered equivalent to courses in the BScN Program you are admitted to, transfer credit will be granted and a View Transfer Credit Report button will appear in your Bear Tracks.  

11) Pay your tuition deposit and register for classes
Use Bear Tracks to view your enrollment date (this is the date you can start registering in classes) and to register for your classes.  The course sequence for each of the BScN Programs is available in the Program Descriptions section of the Faculty of Nursing website and in the University Calendar. For assistance with Bear Tracks, the Bear Tracks User Guide provides a manual as well as video tutorials. 

Undergraduate students must submit a nonrefundable Tuition Deposit of $500 to confirm their admission and their intention to register (the Tuition Deposit will count toward your total tuition cost). More information about the Tuition Deposit is available on the Registrars Office and www.financial.ualberta.ca/StudentTuitionPaymentOptions provides information about payment options.

12) Receive your Faculty of Nursing Welcome Letter.
This letter will be sent to your UAlberta email account, and provides important information about the Faculty of Nursing, orientation, course changes, etc. 

13) Attend orientation.
Students should attend both the university-wide new student orientation provided by the Students' Union as well as the Faculty of Nursing orientation.  Although the Students' Union orientation is optional, the Faculty of Nursing orientation is mandatory for all new students.  If you are unable to attend the Faculty of Nursing orientation, please contact the appropriate individual as listed on the Faculty of Nursing Orientation page.

14) Pay your tuition.
Your fee assessment will be available in Bear Tracks. Refer to the Fees Payment Guide in the University Calendar for more information about tuition and fees and visit www.financial.ualberta.ca/StudentTuitionPaymentOptions for more information about tuition payment options.

15)  Attend classes.
A campus map is available at www.ualberta.ca/maps as well as on the University of Alberta's mobile apps.
