St Albert and Sturgeon Community Hospital Mental Health Program

Located in St Alberts, the St Albert Mental Health Clinic provides assessment and treatment for adults who are experiencing mental health concerns and/or addictive behaviours impacting their personal health and wellbeing. As the clinic is co-located on the health centre premises, it collaborates closely with onsite urgent care/emergency, family medicine and public health. Individuals utilizing services will often have complex needs, with some needing more intensive support and treatment; but in either case are able to live independently or with minimal support in the community.  Care is coordinated by a mental health provider and/or addiction counselor (concurrent approach).  Goal directed services are tailored to the needs of individual clients.  Length of treatment is mutually determined between client and provider.

Services may include: individual and/or group therapy, medication management, psychiatric consultation, case management, crisis stabilization and referral to support services as available.  In some cases, services may be provided in community locations or in the client’s place of residence.

The clinic has support of a multidisciplinary team that consists of:

  • Psychiatrists
  • Nurses
  • Social workers
  • Addiction Counsellors
  • Mental Health Therapists
  • Independent Living Support Workers

Psychiatry and Family Medicine Residents and medical students have the opportunity to gain experience in caring for severe and persistently mentally ill clients through multidisciplinary team working and shared care with primary care providers. There is also the opportunity to participate in quality improvement projects and research.
