For more than 100 years, the School of Dentistry and Dental Hygiene has been leading with purpose—to improve the health of Albertans and beyond through outstanding oral/maxillofacial health care, education, research/scholarship, and service to our communities.
That tradition continues, but we need your help, now more than ever.
When you support the School of Dentistry you can give to an area that is important to you. Below are some of our current priorities:
Dentistry Student Bursary Endowment Fund
Each year we are training hundreds of students who will be tomorrow's oral health professionals. Many of these students are in financial need and are supported through this endowment. These students become dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants.
Pediatric Dentistry Endowment
Right now there are thousands of children in our community living with dental infections and pain that is negatively affecting their performance in school, their overall health and their future potential. These children live with untreated dental infections and pain that diminish their performance in school, their overall health, and their future potential. Especially when dental problems go untreated, children’s overall health is diminished over both the short and long term.
Since its beginning, the School of Dentistry has incorporated community care into the training of our students. For the past 20 years the School of Dentistry has been offering free dental care to nearly 1,000 children each year, now from three patient streams:
- School Visit Program- Inner city schools identified by Alberta Health Services
- Métis Citizens in Alberta
- Referrals of Children from Shine Dentistry
Your gift ensures children in our community can get the oral healthcare they need to focus in school, stay healthy and reach their potential.
Emerging Priorities: Area of Greatest Need
The Dentistry Chair’s Excellence Fund and the Dental Hygiene Excellence Fund provide the School with the flexibility to support and direct initiatives and needs important to the success of our faculty. It provides seed funding for new initiatives and supports academic programs, technology, facility enhancements, research assistance, student activities and much more.
