Stars and Preludes with the University of Alberta Symphony Orchestra

February 12, 2023
2:00 PM | Convocation Hall

On Sunday, February 12 at 2 pm, we are excited to present a concert featuring two of the brightest talents that the school has to offer. Erin Selig, our concerto competition winner, will share the stage with the University of Alberta Symphony Orchestra in "Knoxville:Summer of 1915", an alluringly beautiful masterwork for soprano and orchestra by Samuel Barber set to a text by James Agee. Our other brilliant competition winner, Ka Yuk Yam/Rose, will share her prodigious musical imagination and dazzling piano touch in W. A. Mozart's "Piano Concerto No. 12 in A". And, if that were not enough to make one's Sunday afternoon, we added to our programme an 18-minute exploration of the meaning of life, death and a lot in between, as pondered by Franz List in his masterpiece "Les preludes'.

  • W.A. Mozart | “Piano concerto in A, K.414 featuring Ka Yuk Yam/ Rose on piano
  • S. Barber | “Knoxville: Summer of 1915” for soprano and orchestra featuring Erin Selin, soprano
  • F. Liszt | “Les preludes, a tone poem”

This concert is a part of the Department of Music's 2022-2023 "Department of Music Presents" Series.
