Dry Needling Refresher & Needling Safety Cadaver Review

 

Workshop Description

This in-person dry needling review workshop provides an advanced, anatomy‑driven refresher designed for practicing physiotherapists who want to refine their clinical reasoning, sharpen their technical precision, and deepen their understanding of dry needling safety.

Using cadaver specimens, participants will examine at‑risk regions and surrounding anatomical structures to strengthen three core competencies: risk identification, safe needle placement, and informed clinical decision‑making.

The course blends hands‑on practice, case‑based discussion, and a current literature review covering mechanisms of action, physiological responses, dosage parameters, and evidence‑supported clinical applications. Participants will practice targeted needling techniques with instructor guidance while integrating research findings into real‑world clinical scenarios.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify at-risk regions: Locate anatomical danger zones, including lung fields and critical neurovascular structures.
  • Assess regional risk: Understand how risk varies across body regions to guide technique selection.
  • Interpret current research: Summarize contemporary evidence on mechanisms, effectiveness, and clinical relevance.
  • Select appropriate dosage: Apply evidence-informed parameters to plan safe and effective treatments for common conditions.

Who is this workshop for?

Open to all clinicians who have already taken a dry needling course.

Workshop Facilitator


Nadine Crocker MScPT is a physiotherapist with extensive clinical, academic, and research experience.  Having graduated from the University of Alberta’s Master of Science in Physical Therapy (MScPT) program in 2007, she currently serves full-time as a physiotherapist with the Canadian Armed Forces. Nadine has pursued advanced training across multiple domains. She completed her acupuncture certification in 2008, obtained Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) certification in 2015, and achieved Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT) designation in 2019. She is currently undertaking a PhD focused on improving the safety of dry needling practice.

In addition to her clinical work, Nadine is actively involved in education. She teaches Sinew Channel needling through the acupuncture program at MacEwan University and leads anatomy laboratory instruction for the physiotherapy program at the University of Alberta. Through her combined roles, she contributes to advancing both the practice and education of physiotherapy.
