Canadian Red Cross First Responder + Basic Life Support (BLS)
Course Description
The Canadian Red Cross First Responder course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to assess and provide care in emergency situations until more advanced medical care is available.
The course includes comprehensive training in patient assessment, airway and breathing emergencies, circulation emergencies, medical emergencies, traumatic injuries, environmental emergencies, and other emergency response situations. Participants will also complete Basic Life Support (BLS) training, including high-quality CPR, AED use, and team-based resuscitation skills.
The course has a strong practical component, with participants having the opportunity to apply their skills through hands-on practice and emergency scenarios.
Upon successful completion of all course requirements, participants will receive Canadian Red Cross First Responder and BLS certifications electronically.
Course Dates & Times
Saturday October 3 & Sunday October 4, 2026
9:00am - 5:00pm each day
Participants should plan to attend the full course on both days. Full attendance and successful completion of the required skills and course components are mandatory for certification.
What Participants Should Bring
Participants should bring:
- Comfortable clothing suitable for kneeling, sitting and working on the floor
- Indoor/comfortable footwear
- A water bottle
- Lunch, snacks and any other personal items they may require throughout the day
- A notebook and pen if they would like to take additional notes
Because this is a hands-on course, we recommend participants wear clothing that allows them to move comfortably throughout the day.
Physical Limitations
The course involves practical activities including CPR, patient assessment, positioning, bandaging and emergency scenarios. Participants should expect to spend portions of the course kneeling or working at floor level.
If a participant has an injury, physical limitation or other circumstance that may affect their ability to participate in the practical components of the course, they are welcome to contact me ahead of time so we can discuss accommodations and what may be required for successful course completion.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course requirements, participants will receive their Canadian Red Cross certification electronically following the course.
- First Responder certification is valid for 3 years.
- BLS certification is valid for 1 year.
Additional Information
There is no prerequisite course required prior to attending.
Participants are encouraged to arrive approximately before the scheduled start time so that we can begin promptly.
Participants will be required to sign a release form.
