Canadian Society for Pharmaceutical Sciences recognizes faculty member's contributions and students' research

Three individuals from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences received awards at the Canadian Society for Pharmaceutical Sciences 16th Annual Symposium.

Dion Brocks, Professor and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Student Affairs received a fellowship for his active support of the society. Dion is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Science, has spearheaded poster judging, held a position on the Awards Committee and sat on the Board of Directors.

Mostafa Shahin, Post-Doctoral Fellow, joined Ellen Wasan, Adjunct Professor, University of British Columbia, as a co-winner of the Gattefossé Canada/Canadian Society for Pharmaceutical Sciences Lipid-Based Drug Delivery Award. Mostafa's research focus is on the design and development of nano-carriers as targeted delivery systems for cancer treatment. He received his award for his project titled: Engineered Breast Tumor Targeting Peptide ligand Modified Liposomal Doxorubicin and the Effect of Peptide Density on Anticancer Activity.

Darlene Korn, Class of 2013, BSc in pharmacy graduate, was one of six students, from across Canada, who received a 2013 GlaxoSmithKline National Summer Student Research Program award. She received her award for her research project titled: An Evaluation of Hypertension Self-management Applications for the iPhone.

The symposium took place at the University of British Columbia from June 11 - 14, 2013.
