Mr. Pharmacy contestants ready for another fun-raising event

Annual pageant competition goes Dec. 3 at Myer Horowitz Theatre

Bernie Poitras - 08 November 2016

They sing, dance and answer skill-testing questions - all for the glory to be crowned Mr. Pharmacy 2016 and to raise for money for charity.

Mr. Pharmacy is back for another year and students competing in the annual event are gearing up by getting their "mo" on, growing moustaches to benefit the Movember Canada Foundation. Students raised more than $30,000 last year benefiting the Movember Foundation.

"We're looking forward to another great Mr. Pharmacy event and we're hoping to top $30,000 again this year," says Sean Hanson, VP External, Alberta Pharmacy Students' Association. "This year's theme will is sports, so we've incorporated that into the event and the promotional video as well. All ticket proceeds will go to help support men's cancer research and mental health initiatives through Movember Canada."

Two contestants from each cohort year will compete for the title and represent the faculty at Canada's Next Top Pharmacist in Winnipeg in January. Last year, Callen Kenyon (Class of 2017), the faculty's Mr. Pharmacy representative, won the national title.

"It's definitely a point of pride that our school won the national title last year, and we hope to keep that tradition going," says Sean Henry, second-year pharmacy student and contestant. "All the competitors have made preparation for Mr. Pharmacy a real priority. We're aiming to deliver the most laugh-packed show, and raise the most money that we ever have for Movember."

Students will compete in a talent contest, beach wear segment, a triathlon of pharmacy events and answer skill-testing questions during a popular segment called "Pharmily Feud."

There will also be a silent auction before the show and during the intermission. Tickets are $30 ($25 for students). The show also includes a wine & cheese sponsored by Mint Health + Drugs and a silent auction. Tickets can be purchased here: http://ticketf.ly/2eM3F3S

Students also created a video to promote the event filmed in and around campus.
