Have you met Dr. Garcia? He joined the School of Dentistry over the summer as an Educational Research Methodologist. His research work is focused on working with the Curriculum Renewal Project and supporting projects in the Educational Research & Scholarship Unit. Take a few minutes to get to know him.
Tell us something we don't know about you?
I am from Cuba, a tropical country. However, I really enjoy running in the winter, especially in the evenings when it is dark and I can get lost in my thoughts. I have never thought of anything meaningful sitting in my comfortable office chair.
If you weren't doing what you do now, what would you be doing?
Interesting question. I have been doing research since I completed my bachelor's degree in psychology many years ago. So, not sure what else I may be good at. But before this job, I thought of becoming a qualitative research consultant, but there was just one problem, I am not a business guy.
What's the best advice somebody has ever given you?
My English teacher once told me: learn English not only to pass exams and find jobs, but to enjoy other people and cultures.
Favourite quote, movie or book?
I recently read "Sapiens: A brief history of humankind." I really enjoyed this book, well written and about a fascinating topic: the biological, cognitive, social and technological evolution of our species.
