Dr. Nadine Milos Retires

Congratulations to Dr. Nadine Milos on her retirement!

19 December 2019

Dr. Nadine Milos started in the Department of Zoology at the University of Alberta in 1975 and before this she was at McMaster University as a research assistant and grad student. Having worked in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology and the Department of Oral Biology in the eighties and early nineties, she then came over full time to dentistry.

Nadine held some critical roles within dentistry during some of the most challenging times. She was the acting Chair and Associate Dean in 2003 and then returned to this role in 2007. She also served as the Division Head for Foundational Sciences since 2011 and was the Director for the Oral Biology Graduate Program from 2014-2019. During her second term as Interim Chair, Nadine led a team led which successfully lobbied the Government of Alberta to provide additional funding for the School of Dentistry to rebuild into what we are today.

In addition to her highly effective administrative leadership, Nadine is an excellent educator. Throughout her career, Nadine has won several teaching awards, but the most prestigious award may very well be the Bulyea Cup. In 2010 we celebrated Nadine's success and her contributions to teaching, to research and to oral health sciences education. With her passion and drive to make this school the best it can be, she embodies all the qualities and attributes that this award stands for.

More recently, Nadine has invested a considerable amount of time working on the new curriculum development-reviewing hours and hours of medical content, including making recommendations for delivery and sequencing.

Although she is officially retired at the end of December, you may still see her around the school as she continues to have a presence in her new role as 'professor emeritus'.

We wish her the best in her next journey in life!
