Are you planning to use or own a CBCT Scanner? This course will prepare you to  maximize its potential while mitigating risks to your patients

Course Overview

CBCT technology impacts every dental discipline and specific functions in implant planning, TMJ, airway analysis and pathology.

Course Overview

This course has three components:

  1. A review of the fundamentals of imaging, radiation dosimetry, and clinical guidelines
  2. A workshop involving image acquisition and interpretation
  3. An examination of the knowledge and skills gained
Learning Goals
  • Understand the fundamentals of cone-beam CT technology, principles of operation, and the need for multi-dimensional imaging.
  • Understand the effect of ionizing radiation on biological matter, radiation hygiene, and strategies to reduce the effective absorbed dose to the patient.
  • Understand clinical indications for CBCT and be familiar with radiographic craniofacial anatomy and variations.
  • Prescribe the appropriate operational parameters for imaging, utilize software to visualize CBCT images, select proper visualization methods, and provide basic interpretation of CBCT images.
  • Prepare for installation.
Prerequisites

To be eligible for this program you must have an active practicing license from your dental regulatory authority in Canada.

Syllabus
Theory Module

The CBCT theory review covers the fundamentals of diagnostic imaging and clinical guidelines.

Topics covered include:
  • Radiologic physics
  • Radiation dosimetry
  • Risk vs. benefit analysis
  • Craniofacial anatomy
  • Measures of specificity and sensitivity
  • Evolution of dental imaging
  • Device settings
  • Device comparison
  • Operational parameters
  • Software visualization
  • Clinical applications
  • Fundamentals of Cone Beam CT
  • Interaction of x-rays and biologic matter
  • Strategies for imaging and radiologic interpretation and reporting
Workshop Module

Dentists will have the opportunity to obtain hands-on training with the software and become competent in typical applications of CBCT. Participants will be provided with cases such as implant planning, TMJ examination, airway analysis, and impacted teeth to demonstrate their understanding and proficiency with CBCT. Image results and radiologic interpretation will be graded to document competency.

Final Exam

Following the course and workshop, participants will be administered a multiple choice exam. A score of 80 per cent or higher will be needed to satisfactorily complete the CBCT certification.

CBCT Training for the Dental Team

To filling utilize this new technology in your practice it's crucial that your team is trained an comfortable in it's operation.
