SJC President's Scholarship

The President's Scholarship celebrates students who wish to embody all aspects of the St. Joseph’s College experience through academic formation at SJC, living in our community, and serving others.

The SJC President’s Scholarship is open to current and prospective UofA students. The student selected for this scholarship will receive up to a $7,500 reduction on their SJC residence fees as follows:

  • $2,500 will be deducted from Fall 2024 term SJC residence fees
  • $2,500 will be deducted from Winter term 2025 SJC residence fees
    • Note: at least one SJC course must be taken during one of the Fall/Winter 2024-25 terms.

If you choose to stay an additional year in an SJC residence (this second year is optional as part of the scholarship):

  • $1,250 will be deducted from the Fall 2025 SJC residence fees
  • $1,250 will be deducted from the Winter 2026 SJC residence fees
    • Note: at least one SJC course must be taken during one of the Fall/Winter 2025-26 terms.

Eligibility requirements are:

  • Must be a student in good standing (at UofA or prior post-secondary academic institution) with an average GPA of 3.0 for all courses taken during the 2023 calendar year and maintain good academic standing throughout the scholarship period. Students applying from high school are required to be in good standing and have a 80% average grade for all courses taken during the 2023 calendar year.
  • Must be accepted into, and commit to reside in, one of the SJC residences for the 2024-25 academic year (September through April) at minimum, and remain in good standing. The last $2,500 will be deducted from residence fees for students choosing to stay through the Fall/Winter 2025-26 year. Prior SJC Residents applying for the scholarship must have maintained good standing during their stay with us.
  • Must successfully complete at least one SJC course during one of the Fall/Winter 2024-25 terms, and at least one additional course during one of the Fall/Winter 2025-2026 terms if you are staying a second year in residence.
  • Must commit to providing a minimum of 10 service hours per term while receiving the scholarship. These hours will ideally be arranged within the SJC community; alternatively, the hours can be completed through volunteer service in the wider community. The SJC Campus Ministry Office will assist in identifying placements in which to earn these hours.
