Hiring announcement: Director, University Development

Derek Michael will be joining the team as Director, University Development where he will provide strategic leadership, direction and management to all aspects of the central specialized fundraising units that support university-wide and faculty-based fundraising. He will work in collaboration with the deans and leaders of the Faculty of Native Studies, Augustana Campus, Campus Saint-Jean, Dean of Students, Library and Museums, and FGSR to foster and enhance relationships with stakeholders and supporters within and outside of the university to expand fundraising results. Most recently serving as the Interim Senior Director of Individual Giving, Derek brings 24 years of professional experience in law and fundraising and a deep commitment to serving his team, donors, and our university community. With a BA and JD from the University of Saskatchewan, his leadership roles include Managing Director of Individual Giving and Director of Planned Giving at the U of A, leading a very successful planned giving program at the Alberta Cancer Foundation, and maintaining a demanding and complex law practice serving a diverse portfolio of clients that included municipalities, First Nation Band Councils, and individuals.
