Program Requirements

There are two options for completing the MA in Gender and Social Justice Studies:

  • as a one-year course-based degree (the default option), OR
  • as a two-year thesis-based degree

The MA(Crs) program require:

  • 21 credits of graduate-level courses
  • a capping project, which can take the form of a substantial research
    paper (approximately 35 pages), a field statement, a creative project, a
    policy/program/legal analysis, or something else depending on an
    individual student’s goals and interests.

The Specialization in Digital Humanities (DH) in the MA(Crs) program requires:

  • 9 credits of graduate-level courses in Digital Humanities (out of the total 21 required for the MA).

The MA(Thes) program requires:

  • 18 credits of graduate-level courses
  • a thesis (a major research project/paper completed during the second year in the program, totalling over 100 pages).
  • This option makes sense for very few students. Please contact the graduate program director if you are considering applying for this track.
