Dr. Masaru Yukawa Award for Innovation in Workplace Wellness

Dr. Masaru (‘Mas’) Yukawa (1977-2017) was Chief of Anesthesia at the Mazankowski Heart Institute. He was an outstanding clinician, teacher and mentor. He died by his own hand, following a longstanding and very private battle with mental illness.
By creating this award in his name, his family wishes to stimulate the study and remediation of physical, psychological, organizational and other factors that might cause or perpetuate mental illness in those who work in the Operating Rooms of the University of Alberta Hospitals, and, by extension, in other similar places.
