Wednesday, September 27, 2023 10:00 AM Mountain Standard Time (US and Canada)

This event is open to U of A graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.

Graduate students and postdocs share the common journey of balancing multiple responsibilities while navigating their careers. The path can often be complex and challenging, particularly when it involves bridging the worlds of government and academia. Dr. Patrick Fafard, with his vast experience in both these arenas, offers valuable insights that can help students and scholars understand how they can also traverse these diverse sectors effectively.

Dr. Fafard has occupied positions such as Director General in the Intergovernmental Affairs Secretariat of the Privy Council Office in the Government of Canada and served in multiple roles with three provincial governments. He has explored and contributed to a broad range of policy areas, including health, trade, environmental policy, federalism, and intergovernmental relations. How does one navigate such vast and complex fields, and what can we learn from his experience?

Join us as Dr. Patrick Fafard shares his extensive journey spanning the arenas of government and academia. His current roles include Senior Investigator at the Global Strategy Lab and leadership positions at the Centre for Health Law, Policy and Ethics, the Ottawa Hub for Harm Reduction, and the Institute for Science, Society and Policy.
