Unparalleled Research Opportunities

We offer MSc and PhD degrees requiring both course work and thesis research.

The research interests of our faculty encompass the traditional areas of analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, as well as interdisciplinary areas including chemical physics and bioanalytical, bioorganic, biophysical and medicinal chemistry. Materials science, glycoscience, organometallic chemistry and computational chemistry are also strong areas of interest.

The research programs of the faculty are broadly funded by several agencies such as the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Science and Engineering Research (AHFSER), the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research (AHFMR), the National Cancer Institute of Canada, the Alzheimer Society of Canada, and the Department of National Defence.

Funding is also provided through grants and from contracts with industries such as Novartis, Merck Frosst, Nova Chemicals, Imperial Oil, SCIEX, Shimadzu, Hewlett-Packard, Honda Motor Corporation and Synsorb Biotech Inc.
