MFA Theatre Voice Pedagogy

There will be no intake for the MFA in Theatre Voice Pedagogy for Fall 2024.

The only graduate degree program in Canada dedicated to training professionals in voice, speech and text instruction.

Highlights:

  • Studies in the medical side of voice with selected courses through the UofA's Speech Pathology and Audiology Department
  • Intensive Training with full access to David Ley's teaching and coaching - one of Canada's foremost voice, speech and text specialists
  • Ample opportunities to teach and coach in all divisions of the Department of Drama (and in many other departments University-wide) over the two years of study, including theatrical and public speaking coaching

You will experience:

  • Practical experience in all elements of voice production, speech facility, dialect, and text interpretation in the context of theatre and public speaking
  • Studies in voice and speech science
  • Observation of faculty teaching and coaching
  • Practical Graduate Teaching Assistantship work in an undergraduate oral communication course
  • Supervised practical experience with vocal coaching in the department and in the broader theatre community
  • A thesis project consisting of the preparation and execution of a major vocal coaching assignment for U of A Studio Theatre, the Department of Drama's resident theatre company, or an outside professional production
