The Faculty of Arts Teaching Awards Committee has announced that Lorne Priemaza has won the Contract Instructor Teaching Award. The Faculty of Arts presents awards to recognize excellence in teaching performed by Arts Faculty instructors. In making the award, the Committee said it was impressed by the quality of Lorne's teaching and his dedication to enriching the undergraduate student experience.

Lorne's core teaching methods have been developed over many years, and he takes into account student reviews and feedback. In his Econ 299 and 281 classes, he creates new examples and assignment questions each year that students describe as both interesting and fun. Lorne believes the main way students learn is from repeated exposure to ideas and from practice, and well-prepared assignments are crucial for this. His keen interest in appropriate design of course assignments has even led him to conduct a research project on the topic: "The Effect of Online Assignments on Economics 299 Learning and Achievement".

As reference material, Lorne maintains a complete set of Econ 299 course documents on his UofA web space which is available to all students (not just his own). Students say Lorne's enthusiasm is contagious, and that he is welcoming, helpful, engaging and truly interested in making sure students understand economics - as well as being a "fantastic guy".
