Engagement and Collaboration Culture Working Group

Engagement and Collaboration Culture Working Group

Building a more connected, collaborative department, together.

The Engagement and Collaboration Culture Working Group was established to strengthen how we work together across the Department of Medicine.

Our focus is simple but important:

Fostering a workplace culture where people feel connected, supported, and able to collaborate effectively across roles, divisions, and career stages.

Why This Working Group Exists

Over time, feedback from across the department has highlighted opportunities to improve how we connect, communicate, and collaborate. While many teams do this well, the experience is not always consistent.

The Engagement and Collaboration Culture Working Group was created to:

  • Address ongoing culture-related challenges in a thoughtful, practical way;
  • Support initiatives that strengthen community and collaboration;
  • Help translate ideas and feedback into actions that make a difference;
In short, this group exists to help the department move forward, together.

What We Do

This working group focuses on practical initiatives that support connection, collaboration, and shared purpose within the Department of Medicine. This includes:

  • Developing and supporting initiatives that bring people together across roles and divisions;
  • Creating space for dialogue around workplace culture, transitions, and change;
  • Piloting programs that support engagement at different stages of an academic and clinical career;
  • Working closely with leadership to align culture-focused initiatives with departmental priorities.

This is a cross-role working group, bringing together faculty and administrative members from across the Department of Medicine.

What Success Looks Like

While culture change doesn’t happen overnight, this work is guided by clear outcomes. Over time, we aim to see:

  • Stronger connections across the department;
  • Improved workplace satisfaction and engagement survey results;
  • Increased collaboration across teams and divisions;
  • New initiatives that respond to real needs and are shaped by member input;
  • Progress will be shared as initiatives roll out and evolve.

Get Involved

A collaborative culture depends on participation. There are several ways to engage with this work:

  • Share ideas or feedback on what’s working—and what could be better;
  • Stay informed about upcoming events, programs, and opportunities;
  • Contact the Director of Wellness with questions or suggestions

A Shared Effort

Creating a strong, collaborative culture is a shared responsibility. This working group provides structure and momentum, but its success depends on thoughtful engagement from across the department.

If you have ideas, concerns, or energy to contribute, we want to hear from you.
