Assistant Clinical Promotions
Dr. Ifeoma Achebe is a public health physician and medical officer of health in Central Alberta, where she supports 29 hospitals and provides leadership in outbreak management and infection prevention across acute and continuing care settings.
An active educator and mentor, Dr. Achebe currently chairs the Public Health and Preventive Medicine Competence Committee.

Dr. Ekua Agyemang is a public health and preventive medicine physician based in Nunavut, with expertise in infectious disease prevention and communicable disease control.
Dr. Agyemang contributes to resident teaching, serves as an examiner for national and residency assessment programs, and supports trainees as an Academic Advisor. Her research and leadership work focuses on infectious disease surveillance, tuberculosis elimination, cancer prevention, and health equity initiatives involving Indigenous and Black communities.
Dr. Chaitanya Gandhi is a community endocrinologist with a high-volume practice, and provides inpatient consultation for the Endocrinology service at the U of A Hospital. He has developed clinical niches in osteoporosis and rare metabolic bone diseases and has been invited as a clinical expert in data review with the Canada Drug Agency.
He teaches learners of all levels and serves as an academic advisor for Core Internal Medicine and Endocrinology subspecialty residents.

Dr. Isha Gill is a respirologist providing inpatient consultation at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and outpatient care through the COPD clinic. She co-manages the COPD outpatient program, providing clinical leadership to optimize care delivery and service performance. She has also contributed to improving bronchoscopy utilization and scheduling, enhancing efficiency and patient-centred care.
Dr. Gill contributes to medical education as a pulmonary block facilitator and discovery learning preceptor. She provides bedside and clinic-based teaching to medical students and residents, and delivers seminars to community family physicians on evidence-based COPD management.
Dr. Dylan Johnson is a Rheumatologist at the University of Alberta Hospital with expertise in immune-related complications of cancer therapy. As co-director of the Rheumatology Immuno-Oncology (RIO) Clinic, he has helped expand access to specialized care for patients with complex autoimmune conditions.
A dedicated clinician educator, Dr. Johnson contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education through clinical teaching, Academic Half Day lectures, and mentorship of residents in Core Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. Nationally, he also supports advances in rheumatology education through his work with the Canadian Rheumatology Association Immunology Curriculum Committee.
Dr. Rabia Kashur’s clinical work centres on critical care cardiology and advanced echocardiography, alongside general cardiology care.
Dr. Kashur serves as program director for the Critical Care Cardiology Fellowship, as well as CICU and Anesthesia Rotation Education Lead, Academic Advisor, and Competency Committee member within the Cardiology Residency Program. He teaches learners of all levels and is involved in research supervision.
Dr. Wasim Khan, with the Division of Neurology, provides general neurology and neuromuscular inpatient and outpatient care across multiple sites, and has a high-volume community practice. He developed the Lumbar Puncture Clinic at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, improving access to timely procedures while also providing a valuable teaching environment for residents.
He teaches learners at multiple levels and is an academic advisor and member of the Neurology Residency Program Committee. Dr. Khan is engaged in clinical research as a sub-investigator on multiple industry-sponsored studies and contributes as a member of the Division of Neurology Executive Committee.

Dr. Meagan Lyszczyk, with the Division of General Internal Medicine has been promoted to assistant clinical professor.
Dr. Lyszczyk is a General Internal Medicine subspecialist at the Royal Alexandra Hospital providing inpatient and emergency consultative care. She maintains a high-volume outpatient practice focused on thrombosis and metabolic syndrome-related referrals.
Dr. Mark McIsaac is a nephrologist at the U of A Hospital, with a practice encompassing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient kidney care. He co-founded an ambulatory clinic focused on permanent catheter removal, and developed the Nephrology Ward Service 3 as a surge capacity team.
An accomplished educator, Dr. McIsaac has received multiple teaching awards, including Nephrology Subspecialty Teacher of the Year, System Block of the Year and Systems Block Coordinator of the Year. He is an Academic Advisor for Core Internal Medicine residents. He also contributes as a member on the Nephrology Residency Program and Competence Committees.

Dr. Imhokhai Ogah is a General Internal Medicine physician providing inpatient and outpatient care at the University of Alberta Hospital and the Kaye Edmonton Clinic, where he is a member of the point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) team. He also maintains an outpatient practice through C-health focused on type 2 diabetes and diabetic complications, and participates in annual POCUS outreach training initiatives in Kenya.
Dr. Ogah is an active educator and mentor, coordinating the GIM Clinical Teaching Unit’s monthly Journal Club, facilitating POCUS bootcamp sessions, and teaching medical students and residents. He also serves as an academic advisor for residents and is recognized for his strong learner evaluations.
Dr. Jaye Platnich is a nephrologist at the U of A Hospital, where he provides inpatient nephrology care and outpatient hemodialysis services. He is recognized locally for his expertise in fluid and electrolyte disorders.
Dr. Platnich is a highly engaged and impactful educator who plays a key leadership role as associate program director for Academic Advisors in the Core Internal Medicine Residency Program. His scholarly activities include resident research supervision, clinical trial recruitment, and involvement in emerging clinical research initiatives.
He is a member of the Resident Program Committee, Resident Development Committee, Competence Committee and the Program Director Working Group.

Dr. Epsita Shome-Vasanthan is an attending physician in Nephrology and General Internal Medicine at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital. Her outpatient practice includes general nephrology, chronic kidney disease, and longitudinal peritoneal dialysis.
Dr. Shome-Vasanthan contributes meaningfully to both clinical and didactic teaching across multiple levels of training. She serves as an academic advisor to CIM residents and is a co-lead physician preceptor for associate physicians in GIM at the Grey Nuns.
Dr. Laura Soong is a community-based dermatologist with a clinical focus on skin cancer management, women’s health, and dermatological conditions. She provides consultation services and on-call coverage at the Sturgeon Community Hospital, where she played a key role in launching a collaborative urgent access program designed to streamline emergency dermatology care.
Dr. Soong is a dedicated educator and serves on the Dermatology residency program as an academic advisor. Her scholarly work includes peer-reviewed publications on clinical outcomes and innovation in dermatology, as well as quality improvement projects on AI-driven workflow optimizations.
Dr. Laura van den Bosch is a lung transplant pulmonologist at the University of Alberta Hospital, where she provides inpatient and outpatient care and consultation in lung transplant and general pulmonary medicine.
Dr. Evan Wiens is a cardiologist at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, with a clinical practice spanning general, critical care, and nuclear cardiology, along with a high-volume outpatient clinic.
Dr. Wiens leads nuclear cardiology education within the Cardiology Residency Program and provides clinical teaching across inpatient, outpatient, and nuclear cardiology settings.
